What will I learn?

This field is for students interested in jobs for accounting majors, such as public, managerial or governmental accounting. Public accountants are involved in auditing, planning and providing specialized advice on business problems. Managerial accountants are responsible for generating the information needed to plan and control a company's operations. Governmental accountants review financial documentation, such as audits of tax accounts, for the government and its taxpayers. The MSU undergraduate program in accounting is in the top 25 nationally, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report. The accounting major program is Michigan's largest educator of certified public accountants and is endorsed by the Institute of Management Accountants. The Broad College of Business is also included among an elite group of target recruiting schools for each of the ''Big Four'' public accounting firms, as well as for other national and regional firms.

For international students

Admission to Michigan State University is competitive, but there are no minimum requirements. MSU strongly encourages a college preparatory curriculum in secondary school. Students also are advised to apply early.

  • Class rank
  • Standardized test results
  • English language proficiency for non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents whose first language is not English
