This program also prepares a student for graduate study in applied mathematics, numerical analysis, or operations research.The concentration in Computational Science, offered by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, provides a solid foundation in the mathematical and computational sciences. Graduates with this skill set can seek employment assisting scientists and engineers with the formulation of models, analysis of data, and various solution methods. There is a great need within technical industries for people with sufficiently strong knowledge in these mathematical methods to participate in teams of scientific researchers. This concentration prepares students to not only develop mathematical models for real world problems but to also understand how to solve and interpret them using both mathematical and computational techniques.
