What will I learn?

Students who graduate from ABET-accredited programs are authorized to sit for the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and are encouraged to do so. Completion of the FE Exam is not required for any of the Engineering School’s degree programs. The FE Exam is a multiple-choice test, administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). Passing the FE exam is the first step to becoming licensed as a Professional Engineer. Engineers who have successfully passed the FE exam are considered ''Engineers in Training (EIT)''. Once an EIT has accumulated four years of acceptable work experience in their field of engineering, they are then able to sit for the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam, in order to become a professionally licensed engineer. The PE exams go beyond testing academic knowledge and require knowledge gained in engineering practice. The requirement to accumulate work experience before taking a PE exam means that the program is not designed to prepare students for immediate licensure.

For international students

The University of Louisville seeks to admit college-ready students. Students with strong high school grades and a pre-college high school curriculum are generally admitted. Students with lower test scores will be considered if they demonstrate strong high school grades in a rigorous high school curriculum. GCE: O Level: Minimum grade of C or 5 in a minimum of 5 subjects, average of all subjects taken must also be a C or higher IGCSE: Minimum grade of C or 5 in a minimum of 5 subjects, average of all subjects taken must also be a C or higher. (Any AS/A Levels will be included in assessment. All subjects must meet standards as outlined here.) GCE: AS/ A Level: Minimum grade of C or 5 in a minimum of 5 subjects (can be a combination of O and A level), average of all subjects taken must also be a C or higher; (Any O Levels will be included in assessment. All subjects must meet standards as outlined here.) IB: International Baccalaureate: Successful completion of IB Diploma minimum of 27 Points West African School Certificate: Completion with minimum C4 in a minimum of 5 subjects General Educational Development (GED) exam: The GED satisfies proof of HS graduation only. Applicants must have a minimum score of 145 (equivalent to 2.9 GPA). They will be required to take the Reading Accuplacer exams to indicate college readiness.
