What will I learn?

The Computer Information Systems (CIS) Software Development certificate can be earned without completing a full degree. This certificate builds your skills in software development and database management. You'll learn core computing concepts and gain hands-on experience needed for the workforce.Courses are taught in modern computer labs, and flexible day and evening class options make it easy to fit into your schedule. The CIS program provides high level training by introducing students to basic computing concepts while allowing them to develop the applied skills required for the workforce. Courses are taught in cutting edge computer labs so students can learn and practice skills. Schedules offer a range of day and evening classes.

Entry requirements

For international students

Official documents (including transcripts, test results, and diplomas/certificates) MUST be submitted for full admission, award of scholarships and the issuance of an I-20. An official final transcript must be submitted before you can register for your second semester coursework. SAT or ACT – The University of Akron is test-optional. The SAT or ACT is not required for admission or scholarship consideration for applicants. Students who meet The University of Akrons admission requirements and choose engineering as their major are directly admitted into the College. If you're coming from high school, your high school records will help determine the best first-semester courses for you. Students must pass a Computer Literacy Placement test or complete the bridge course CISS 105 Introduction to Computers and Application Software with a grade of C- or better prior to enrolling in the technical courses for this program. This class does not count towards program requirements. Students must attain a C- or better in each transferred course in the CIS area.
