What will I learn?

Whether you want to advance your career, pursue academia, or achieve professional development goals, consider the graduate programs in the Department of Chemical, Biomolecular and Corrosion Engineering at The University of Akron.Graduate specializations include corrosion science and engineering, bioengineered and nanoscale systems, environmental engineering, interfacial engineering, chemical reaction engineering, catalysis, and molecular simulations. Our faculty engineer molecules, materials, devices, and systems to solve chemical engineering challenges in energy, health, and sustainability.Faculty and students work on exciting projects, from detecting corrosion in natural gas pipelines to developing hydrogel biomaterials for treating complex diseases. The program offers thesis and non-thesis options. The thesis option requires 24 semester hours of graduate coursework and 6 semester hours of thesis research, plus an oral defense of the thesis. The non-thesis option requires 30 semester hours of coursework.Applicants without prior engineering degrees must complete a Bridge Program. This program allows bridge students to finish their M.S. degree about six months longer than students entering with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. Typically, the M.S. degree takes two years beyond a bachelor’s degree.
