What will I learn?

Cytotechnologists are responsible for the study and evaluation of human cells sampled from all organs and body fluids. Professionals in this field have the skills to detect and interpret features representative of malignant and non-malignant diseases, including cancer, infectious disease, and autoimmune disorders. In addition to being experts in the microscopic evaluation of cytological specimens, cytotechnologists also select and perform molecular and immunologic tests necessary for development of personalized patient care.
Clinical practica are the real-world training aspects of our programs. All Bachelor of Science and Master of Science students have four different placements in clinical and research laboratories at prestigious hospitals, clinics, and laboratories in and outside the tri-state area. Practica may be completed at commercial laboratories, community hospital and medical center laboratories, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry labs, and academic research labs. Laboratory practice in the medical laboratory, cytotechnology, and biotechnology disciplines is a hands-on job requiring a hands-on education. We provide our students with a multitude of opportunities to use the latest high-tech equipment and analytical methods, master a range of laboratory techniques, and experience the routines and rhythms of life in the laboratory.
