What will I learn?

The Museum Studies Program was established in 1963 as a cooperative venture between UW-Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Public Museum. The goal of the program is to provide, in a museum environment, the basic scholarship and functional training to equip the student with the skills required for professional entry-level museum positions in ...museumsgalleriesarchiveshistorical societiesrelated institutionsThe program is administered by the Anthropology Department at UW-Milwaukee but any UW-Milwaukee graduate student may apply. Courses are taught off-campus at the Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM) by museum professionals. All applicants to the Museum Studies certificate program must comply with a background check as required by Milwaukee Public Museum policy. Individuals with criminal records cannot be admitted to the program.

Entry requirements

For international students

An applicant must meet Graduate School requirements plus the following departmental requirements to be considered for admission to the program: A general masters degree in anthropology or equivalent preparation without the masters degree. An applicant with a masters degree in another field may be admitted if the student has a grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale) in graduate work and is approved by the departmental Graduate Admissions Committee. Three letters of recommendation. A writing sample such as a relevant term paper, article submission, etc. Submission of scores from the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination. You must have attended this institution for at least one year and the degree was earned at an institution in the United States, and you have lived and worked continuously in the U.S since earning the degree.
