What will I learn?

The Computer Engineering PhD prepares students for careers in research or academia with a potential focus in computer systems and VLSI design, software engineering and algorithms, intelligent systems and Machine Learning, computer networks and computer security, as well as simulation systems.The doctoral program in Computer Engineering is primarily intended for students with a master's degree in Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline wishing to pursue a career in research or academia. Specializations include computer systems and VLSI design, software engineering and algorithms, intelligent systems and Machine Learning, computer networks and computer security and simulation systems.Research interests of the Computer Engineering faculty include computer architecture, software engineering, artificial intelligence, expert systems, modeling and simulation, computer networking and ubiquitous computing, computer security, and very large-scale integration (VLSI) systems.

Entry requirements

For international students

Masters or bachelors degree in Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline. Official, competitive GRE score taken within the last five years. Résume. Statement of educational, research, and professional career objectives. Three letters of recommendation. Applicants applying to this program who have attended a college/university outside the United States must provide one official transcript and official certification of degree, with date awarded. See the Sample Country Requirements page for country specific requirements. If you will be requesting transfer credit, a course-by-course evaluation from World Education Services (WES) or Josef Silny and Associates, Inc. must be submitted. Prospective applicants with an earned masters degree in a closely related field should apply to the post-masters track. To be eligible, your masters degree must be conferred before the start of the term for which you seek admission. As listed above and; Earned masters degree Faculty members may choose to conduct face-to-face or telephone interviews before accepting an applicant into their research program. Additional courses may also be required to correct any course deficiencies. Students should contact the graduate program director for further information.
