What will I learn?

The Mathematics Education track in the Education PhD program is designed to prepare mathematics educators for various career options, including preparing educators, teaching postsecondary mathematics, and conducting research in mathematics education.Doctoral students in the track engage in undergraduate teaching, participate in research activities with faculty, experience internships, and interact with the nationally acclaimed Lockheed Martin/UCF Teaching Academy for Mathematics and Science.The Mathematics Education track in the Education PhD program requires a minimum of 63 credit hours beyond the master's degree. Students must complete 24 credit hours of core courses, 6 credit hours of specialization courses, 15 credit hours of electives, 3 credit hours of internship, and 15 credit hours of dissertation. All students must also complete the candidacy examination.

Entry requirements

For international students

A masters degree in a closely related field. Official, competitive GRE score taken within the last five years. Three letters of recommendation: These should be professional references and ideally from those who have supervised, mentored, or served as your professor in some capacity. Goal statement: This should include why you are interested in pursuing a PhD in mathematics education, your mathematics education teaching and research interests as well as which faculty member(s) you would be most interested in working with and why. Résumé or CV. Please include all degrees earned, teaching and leadership experiences, courses taught, etc. Applicants applying to this program who have attended a college/university outside the United States must provide one official transcript and official certification of degree, with date awarded.
