What will I learn?

The shift in biological sciences from descriptive to quantitative analysis has inspired a rapidly growing area of applied mathematics. A strong group of faculty members in our department work across disciplines with faculty in biology, computer science, and statistics on problems inspired by the modeling and analysis of biological processes and systems. With an advanced degree in this field, you will develop the ability to apply complex mathematical theories, computational techniques and algorithms to solve economic, scientific, engineering, physics and business-related problems.You will have many opportunities for research and hands-on experiences, with special opportunities to work with our top faculty on nation-leading research in the areas of bioinformatics, combinatorics, differential equations, algebra and mathematics education.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants must have a minimum overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 grade scale equivalent to U.S. bachelors degree. Have earned a bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a recognized accrediting body, a ministry of education, or an official quality assurance organization in another country. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)- Official TOEFL score (international applicants only) of at least 550 paper or IBT score of 79 IELTS (International English Language Testing System)- minimum overall score of 6.5
