The University of Toledo's Clinical Psychology doctoral program has a long history of providing superior training in the science and practice of psychology. UToledo has been accredited by the American Psychological Association since 1979. We offer a science-based, flexible program that focuses on three traditional functions - clinical research, assessment and evidence-based psychotherapy. UToledo's Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program emphasizes both research and practice. Our graduate students obtain strong research and statistical skills, as well as exceptional training in evidence-based practice and empirically-supported principles and treatments. To enhance the flexibility and breadth of their training, students also can opt to minor in a subdiscipline of their choice. We offer the following minor areas, designed to match faculty expertise and student interest: Quantitative psychology Health psychology Experimental psychopathology Students also have the opportunity to obtain advanced, integrative research training by receiving joint mentorship from a faculty member in UToledo’s Experimental Psychology program. UToledo Clinical Psychology doctoral students work at the UToledo Psychology Clinic (UTPC), which provides outpatient mental-health services to the Toledo community. Ph.D. students are closely supervised by expert faculty, who are licensed clinical psychologists. Year 1: Intake interviews and psychological assessments Year 2: Psychotherapy Years 3 and 4: Continue to develop diagnostic and treatment skills at UTPC. Students complete externships in community agencies or hospitals. During year 4, students have the opportunity to learn supervision skills by overseeing students in their earlier years of training under the supervision of faculty members. Most 5th-year students complete their training in full-time, American Psychological Association-accredited internships outside the Toledo area. Teaching experience. Get vital practice by teaching undergraduate courses on your own. State-of-the-art computer labs. The UToledo Psychology department has two labs equipped with more than 50 computers with data collection and data analysis programs. It also offers a psychophysiological laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment for physiological recordings.
