What will I learn?

The Department of Civil and Materials Engineering (CME) offers programs leading to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Materials Engineering. Study and research is available in the areas of metallurgy, ceramics, nanomaterials, electronic materials, composites, welding and joining, solidification, corrosion, and processing. The department also offers programs leading to degrees in Civil Engineering at both the master’s and doctoral levels.

Entry requirements

For international students

  • Baccalaureate Field Engineering or a related field.
  • Grade Point Average At least 3.00/4.00 for the final 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of undergraduate study.
  • Minimum English Competency Test Score
  • TOEFL 80 (iBT Test), with subscores of Reading 19, Listening 17, Speaking 20, and Writing 21; 60, with subscores of Reading 19, Listening 17, Writing 21 (revised Paper-Delivered Test), OR,
  • IELTS 6.5, with subscores of 6.0 for all four subscores, OR,
  • PTE-Academic 54, with subscores of Reading 51, Listening 47, Speaking 53, and Writing 56.
