What will I learn?

The Department of Religion offers the graduate concentration in Texts & Contexts to explore literary and performative expressions of religion, including scriptures, through the lenses of history, philosophy, literary theory, and rhetoric. The Texts & Contexts curriculum consists of four repeatable courses. Department faculty members teach material from their own specialties to address the course themes. Students may repeat a given course up to three times so long as it is offered with a different subtitle reflecting different material.

Entry requirements

For international students

You will need to submit one copy of records for all previous post-secondary education. You can do this by contacting the Registrars Office of each higher education institution that you have attended, and asking to have one copy of your transcript(s) sent to Syracuse University. All offers of admission from Syracuse University are conditional, pending the receipt of these official academic credentials. Your academic credentials confirm that you have been awarded a U.S. bachelors degree (or equivalent). Transcripts from all previous institutions (official transcripts must be sent to the Department of Religion). Three (3) letters of recommendation Personal Statement of not more than 1000 words, including your choice of concentration and religious culture to study at SU Writing Sample of not more than 20 pages. GRE scores are waived until further notice
