What will I learn?

The PhD program in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology at WVU is recognized as one of the premier training programs in the world, offering a comprehensive curriculum delivered by highly qualified faculty that combines academic rigor, applied consulting opportunities, and extensive research experience to equip graduates as highly competent, well-rounded professionals in the field. Students conduct their own line of research, work with faculty on publishable manuscripts, and complete three research benchmarks alongside their dissertation, with supervised experiences available in sport, exercise, and performance settings, including Division I, II, and III athletic programs. The program includes a concurrent master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, allowing students to sit for counseling licensure upon graduation and preparing them for careers as sport psychology consultants, researchers, and faculty members, while a science track with greater research emphasis (without the counseling master's degree) is also available.
