What will I learn?

Stony Brook's Physical Therapy Program enjoys a rich history spanning 50 years and 1900 graduates. The program develops leaders of the profession who demonstrate evidence-based practice, critical inquiry and clinical decision-making skills needed for autonomous practice. Our graduates are prepared to provide direct patient care in a multitude of physical therapy settings as well as to pursue careers in research, administration, or education. Stony Brook’s physical therapy program has access to the largest tertiary care hospital in Suffolk County (University Hospital) and the Long Island State Veterans Home. Both facilities are on the Stony Brook Campus and only a short walk from the physical therapy program. The close relationship with these facilities, as well as Peconic Landing in Greenport, provides an environment for sharing clinical expertise between clinicians, educators and students. Stony Brook University is one of four comprehensive research university centers within the State University of New York system. It is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, and is ranked in the top 1% of all the universities in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The DPT program at Stony Brook University is part of the School of Health Professions within Stony Brook Medicine, and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
