What will I learn?

The Juris Doctor/Master of Social Work (JD/MSW) dual-degree program builds the diverse tool set needed for you not only to represent the marginalized and disadvantaged, but to lead the charge for social justice. Completion of these degrees open doors to careers beyond traditional social work. You’ll possess the theory and practical expertise to take on leadership roles in many fields, including public interest law and public policy, government administration, nonprofit management and social entrepreneurship.Through a rich collection of courses and field experiences, you’ll learn how to work within the legal system and various social service institutions to advocate for clients more effectively and/or advance social policy reform. The dual-degree JD/MSW program enables you to complete both degrees in as few as four years instead of the five years required to complete them separately. And the dual-degree program is designed to be flexible. You can begin with either your JD or MSW studies, depending on your career goals and interests. Dual-degree students cannot receive either degree until they have met the requirements for both.

Entry requirements

For international students

You must apply and be accepted separately into both the JD program in the School of Law and the Master of Social Work (MSW) program in the School of Health Sciences.

Admissions for these programs are handled separately, but a student should inform both admissions offices of an interest in pursuing the dual degree. The earlier you are accepted into both programs and declare pursuit of both degrees, the more beneficial the dual-degree program is in the practical savings of time and credits.

Upon admission to the dual-degree program (JD/MSW), you must meet with the director of the MSW program and the associate dean of academic affairs of the School of Law.

Our accepted tests and their minimum scores:

TOEFL: Minimum score of 90

IELTS: Minimum score of 6.5

DUOLINGO: Minimum score of 110

PTE: Minimum score of 57

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
