A degree in economics provides you with a solid foundation for a career in business, government, or with a nonprofit organization. In this program, you will study how societies, governments, businesses, households, and individuals create, use, manage and distribute resources. Economists are vital in helping predict and study responses to changes in policy and market changes, an important skill in today’s changing business environment. Economists also study and help develop public policies like health care and education reform. Our program will equip you with the skills to make better decisions in a business environment, on public policy, and even in your personal choices.Our bachelor graduates from the Department of Economics have gone on to work in businesses across many industries, in governmental agencies, and in the nonprofit sector. Our students who graduated from 2013–15 have an 80 percent placement by date of graduation and 88 percent three months after graduation. The starting average salary of those graduates was 49,300. A degree in economics offers you great potential for career growth earnings that will increase significantly over the span of your career. Average salaries of full-time employees with a terminal degree in business economics is 75,000 and average salaries of graduates with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics are 70,000, the highest among the social science majors group, according to the Center on Education and the Workforce at Georgetown University.
