What will I learn?

Bioprocessing and biotechnology are a specialized forms of chemical and biological science and engineering that encompasses agriculture, food, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, paper, and other materials. It also covers large scale industry production for yield optimization and end product quality. From the NJIT Department of Chemistry and Environmental Science, the Graduate Certificate in Cell & Gene Therapy Sciences will cover these topics in depth.

Program Objectives

NJIT is uniquely situated among the greatest concentration of biotechnology and pharmaceutical activities in the world, with over 400 private and public biopharmaceutical companies thriving around the NJ Area. The mission of NJIT’s professional Cell & Gene Therapy Sciences option in the MS Pharmaceutical Chemistry program is to prepare scientists and engineers for dynamic careers in biopharmaceutical industry. The program will focus on providing integrated coursework and training in current biotechnology industry practices. Our approach, relying on the input of our industrial advisory board, will ensure that our program will keep students up-to-date on the latest biotechnology industry changes and challenges and prepare them to work in this growing and exciting industry. NJIT’s professional Cell & Gene Therapy Sciences program will provide a solid grounding in science and engineering, with an industry focus, facilitating the tailoring of coursework to meet individual career goals.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

To be considered for a master's program at NJIT, you must have completed a four-year undergraduate program accredited in the United States, or its equivalent and demonstrates strong academic achievement in an appropriate discipline.

For international students

To be considered for a Graduate Certificate program at NJIT, you must have completed a Bachelor's degree, or its equivalent elsewhere, and demonstrate high academic achievement in an appropriate discipline.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), Duolingo or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) may be asked of international applicants not holding a degree from a United States post-secondary institution. The minimum score required is 79 for the Internet-based TOEFL exam, 213 for the computer-based TOEFL exam, or 550 for the paper-based TOEFL exam. A minimum score of 6.5 with no sub-score lower than 6.0 is required for the IELTS exam or 120 on the Duolingo exam.
