The online Graduate Certificate – Literacy from Eastern Washington University is designed to expand the knowledge and skills of K-12 certificated teachers whose goal is to increase student success for all learners as a reading specialist. In this online graduate certificate program, you will reassess current reading pedagogical knowledge, explore ways of building a literate classroom, and learn how to integrate a wide range of curriculum materials as you plan systematic instruction to meet state standards.
You will also study the causes and correlates of individual differences in reading ability and learn how to use a variety of assessment tools and practices to plan and evaluate evidence-based literacy instruction. Through relevant research, field experiences, and hands-on opportunities, you will enrich your abilities to teach reading skills, strategies, and comprehension to kindergarten through grade 12 students. Coursework in this certificate program can also be applied to the M.Ed. – Literacy online degree program for an accelerated completion time.
Note: Educators certificated within the state of Washington can add the P-12 reading endorsement on their teaching certificate. Educators outside the state of Washington will need to follow the authorization for endorsements granted by their state.
