What will I learn?

In the BS program in health education and health promotion, students learn how to help communities advocate for healthier environments as well as how to teach individuals how to get and stay healthy. Students learn to plan, implement, manage and evaluate health promotion programs.

Global Experience

With over 250 programs in more than 65 countries (programs vary in length, from one week to one year), study abroad is possible for all ASU students who wish to acquire global skills and knowledge in preparation for a 21st century career. Students earn ASU credit for completed courses, while staying on track for graduation, and they may apply financial aid and scholarships toward program costs. Students in this major will satisfy some major requirements by participating in study abroad learning.

Career Opportunities/p>

Health education and health promotion professionals fill a critical role as they teach individuals how to stay well by living healthy lifestyles, and they help mobilize communities to create healthy environments through policy, advocacy and environmental change. Employment of health educators is expected to grow much faster than the average for all professions, with the U.S. Department of Labor predicting a 17% increase in the field between 2020 and 2030.This degree enables students to sit for the certified health education specialist exam through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing. The certified health education specialist is a globally recognized credential for health professionals that provides a competitive edge in the job market, qualifying students for positions in health care and insurance organizations. Graduates had a 100% pass rate on the CHES exam in 2020, compared with a 70% pass rate nationally. After five years of practice, those with the CHES credential are eligible to become master certified health education specialists, who are then eligible to become certified diabetes educators, expanding the field of practice and Career Opportunities Graduates of this degree program can also pursue further graduate study in such fields as: community health, public health, health education and promotion, health psychology, medicine and dentistry (with additional elective sciences) occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant, social work

You’re considered a first-year student if you graduated from a regionally accredited high school or earned your GED, and you never attended college or have fewer than 12 transferable college credit hours. First-year students must have a 3.00 grade point average (GPA) (a "B" or better where "A"=4.00) from a secondary school. English proficiency: TOEFL iBT (internet-based test) - the minimum score is 61 (iBT); TOEFL pBT (paper-based test) - minimum score is 57; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - The overall band score requirement for the academic test is at least 6.0; Pearson Test of English (PTE) - ASU requires a score of at least 53; Duolingo English test - minimum score of 95.
