What will I learn?

Technology is being infused into every aspect of our lives, including jobs across all industries and sectors. Being able to translate technical achievements into easily digestible insights for all audiences is a vital part of turning an idea into innovation. Illinois Tech’s B.S. in Information Communication and Data Visualization prepares you to be a key member of project-based collaborations alongside scientists, engineers, designers, and policy experts, turning their technical know-how into insightful communications and data visualizations. As a student at Chicago’s leading tech-focused university, you’ll collaborate with peers in engineering, computing, and other STEM fields on real-world projects that will help you build the communication skills that translate across industries.

Collaborate with peers across disciplines and apply your comprehensive knowledge of information communication and data visualization as part of a rigorous, praxis-based approach and real-world projects-including a professional-grade, capstone project-in Illinois Tech’s B.S. in Information Communication and Data Visualization. Learn to develop audience-first communications strategies, create data visualizations utilizing professional tools, interpret and convey complex technical information and optimize technical systems for human users, and collaborate on and contribute to technical and scientific development projects, enabling you to cultivate the strong technical writing and communication skills needed to effectively document and present complex information. And, with more than 40 credit hours of free electives, the ICDV program is an ideal second major for students in engineering or computing-related programs who seek to develop the communication, data visualization, and writing skills that will help them better illustrate and deliver their vision to others.
