An interior designer is responsible for creating spaces that respond to client needs and desires. Interior designers are sought after to change the function of spaces, update spaces from out-of-date design, and to improve the sustainable and/or accessibility features in spaces.

Hand drawing and sketching
Knowledge of materials and products
Computer-aided drafting (CAD)
Computer 3D modeling
Knowledge of electric lighting applications
An understanding of accessible design
Respect for the environment with sustainable design practices
