What will I learn?

This major provides a holistic study of human movement including mechanical and physiological, but with an emphasis on the psychological, sociological, and behavioral aspects of sport and physical activity. The program is appropriate for students who plan to work in coaching, the fitness/exercise industry or any other kinesiology related field such as sport science or rehabilitation. Additionally, this degree can serve as the gateway degree to the allied health professions or preparation for post-baccalaureate study in sport and/or exercise psychology, psychology, coaching education, or other kinesiology-related study. Supporting courses from psychology are included to provide more in-depth analysis of principles associated with human cognition and behavior. Why Consider a Sport Psychology Specialization in the Kinesiology Major? The sport psychology option provides students with the behavioral knowledge and educational techniques to enhance performance in sport, recreational, and exercise settings. This option provides an emphasis in psychology and exercise science that will serve as preparation for coaching and as an adequate set of prerequisites for post-baccalaureate study in sport and/or exercise psychology.
