What will I learn?

In this program, you will learn to develop effective literacy instruction through research-based practices. This 36-credit degree program is designed for teachers with initial certification. Our curriculum gives you the opportunity to explore literacy theory, equity and diversity in literacy and to develop expertise in Literacy Instruction, Curriculum Design and School Context. You will have access to computer laboratories, a reading clinic housed in the School of Education, a multi-media center, a curriculum library, a fully networked and automated reference library and onsite and remote access to online databases and electronic journals. As a graduate of Duquesne University's Master's of Education in Reading and Literacy Education program, you will be eligible to become a certified reading specialist.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants are customarily expected to have a 3.0 grade point average, based on a four-point scale, in their undergraduate work.

We require a TOEFL score of 80 and also IELTS score of 6.5.
