At SIU, students find a master’s program that holds a distinction rarely found in the nation: the accounting programs have separate accreditation by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the premier accrediting body for business programs. That separate accreditation is held by less than 1 percent of the more than 16,000 schools worldwide granting business degrees.The Master of Accountancy program prepares aspiring professionals for traditional accounting roles, such as a CPA, or helps them acquire skills required for more specialized roles such as financial analyst, corporate treasurer, controller, fraud examiner, forensic accountant, auditor or financial advisor. Graduates may also pursue careers as professional accountants in public practice, industry, financial institutions, government, and other not-for-profit organizations.The Auditing & Accounting Information Systems program is designed for those interested in pursuing careers in auditing or advisory services in industry or in public accounting. The primary objective of the program is to develop conceptual and technical abilities, applied accounting research skills, communication skills, critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
