Master of Arts in Counseling - Art Therapy

USA

What will I learn?

In our program, you’ll get a strong grounding in the theoretical, philosophical, and evidence-based research assumptions of counseling processes and techniques. You’ll take courses on everything from developmental psychology to couples therapy to addiction treatment. You’ll explore the legal, ethical, and professional issues that have an impact on clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, and rehabilitation counseling. Clinical Mental Health Counseling students can choose to complete additional training in Art Therapy. A concentration in Art Therapy prepares professional counselors (LPCs) and visual art therapists. Many people can express themselves through art in ways they are unable to do otherwise.Art therapy uses the creative process of visual artmaking as a way of expressing and working through emotional conflicts and of fostering self-awareness and personal growth. Art therapists work with individuals of all ages and abilities in clinical, educational, rehabilitative and studio settings.
