The EWU online Master of Arts – History can give you a deeper understanding of the past to help shape the events of tomorrow. This unique, 100 percent online MA – History program is the only one of its kind in the Pacific Northwest.

By earning your online master’s degree in history, you can prepare for a wide range of roles, including archivist, curator, history writer, genealogist, political scientist, historian or history teacher. Opportunities for those with an EWU master's degree in history may arise in museums research centers libraries preservationist societies government institutions the legal industry historical societies and government agencies such as park service, forest service and bureau of land management.

Our rigorous curriculum provides an excellent foundation for qualification to teach dual-enrollment classes. A capstone course in this online MA – History degree program offers the opportunity to create a valuable work portfolio that can be used to help you if you are changing careers or seeking to advance in your career. As a student, you will have access to career services at EWU designed to provide resources for those looking to transition in industry or profession. You will also have a direct line to a robust library system to assist you in research that incorporates consortium lending libraries and substantive digital archives.

Entry requirements

For international students

Anyone with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is welcome to apply
Applicants with degrees in history, political science, English, anthropology, sociology, philosophy, social studies or secondary education with a GPA of at least 3.0 are admitted automatically
Applicants with a bachelors degree in other disciplines or with a GPA less than 3.0 must submit a short statement of purpose describing how they are prepared for the rigors of a graduate degree in history
