What will I learn?

The master of arts (M.A.) degree program in museum studies offers a curriculum of hands-on training, research, scholarship and design that prepares you for a wide range of positions in all aspects of museums and cultural heritage. We shape alumni to be resilient, adaptable and responsive museum professionals. At the center of the program is the belief that the museum professional serves as the liaison between the viewing public and the museum object. The program is structured in a manner that enables you to develop an understanding of the relationship between practical experience and contemporary theory.

Entry requirements

For international students

As an applicant to a Syracuse graduate program, youll need to provide official documentation of having earned at least a U.S. bachelors degree (or its equivalent) in another country. Two letters of recommendation Academic transcript. Unofficial transcript uploaded to the online application. If you are admitted, an official, degree-bearing transcript must be mailed to the University. Applicants must complete a U.S. bachelors degree (or its equivalent in another country) before starting a graduate program. Personal statement/essay. Describe in approximately 500 words your main academic interests, why you wish to study for the degree you have chosen, why you wish to study at Syracuse University, how you expect to finance your studies, and your plans after you receive your degree. Upload directly to the online application. Academic writing sample. Include a sample of strong academic writing (no more than 10 pages), which should be uploaded directly to the online application.
