What will I learn?

While our energy department has strong ties to the oil and gas sector, our programs reflect the philosophy that the energy industry is an evolving field and must be viewed from a long-term, sustainable perspective. Guided by a diverse group of faculty, you will receive advanced training in upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas business functions and operations. Our rigorous and interdisciplinary coursework combines traditional academic expertise with practical experience, allowing you to investigate various aspects of other industry sectors, including alternative fuels, power, and energy efficiency.We offer undergraduate and graduate programs taught in small groups by our expert faculty, who are active in numerous professional associations and engage in research at the intersection of business, science, and technology.Our graduates are well-prepared for job opportunities in wide-ranging industries, including oil and gas companies, pipeline and storage companies, refining and marketing companies, utilities, and financial institutions. There are numerous opportunities to learn from TU faculty, industry practitioners, and other experts with direct experience working in the energy sector. TU offers industry-related internships, both during the academic school year and summer. Alumni employers include XTO Energy, Kaiser-Francis, Devon Energy, Chevron, Anadarko Petroleum Corp., Delta Air Lines, Williams, Cimarex Energy, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, and others.

Entry requirements

For international students

Requirements for admission to the Graduate School, including English proficiency, may be found in the Admission section of this Bulletin.In addition, applicants to the graduate program in petroleum engineering must have an official copy of their scores in the GRE General Test submitted to the Graduate School and have a 3.0 minimum overall grade point average in undergraduate study or approval of the graduate program advisor and the Dean of the Graduate School. Applicants must designate their major fields of research interest.
