What will I learn?

Drawing practices in the School of Art seek to redefine the materiality of drawing at a time when digital technologies dominate visual communication. By embracing the representational, abstract, illustrative, and conceptual, the drawing intensive aims to serve as a platform for experimental methods, concepts, and practices while respecting time-honored histories and conventions. The drawing intensive seeks to promote and disseminate drawing research, with emphasis on contemporary practices and theoretical context.

Entry requirements

For international students

You will need to submit one copy of records for all previous post-secondary education. You can do this by contacting the Registrars Office of each higher education institution that you have attended, and asking to have one copy of your transcript(s) sent to Syracuse University. All offers of admission from Syracuse University are conditional, pending the receipt of these official academic credentials. Your academic credentials confirm that you have been awarded a U.S. bachelors degree (or equivalent). Three letters of recommendation Academic transcript. Unofficial transcript uploaded to the online application. If you are admitted, an official, degree-bearing transcript must be mailed to the University. Applicants must complete a U.S. bachelors degree (or its equivalent in another country) before starting a graduate program. Personal statement/essay. Describe in approximately 500 words your main academic interests, why you wish to study for the degree you have chosen, why you wish to study at Syracuse University, how you expect to finance your studies, and your plans after you receive your degree. Upload directly to the online application. Once you submit your application to the Graduate School, please allow up to 3 business days of processing. Upon completion, you will receive a confirmation email along with instructions on how to access your portfolio portal. Submit 15-20 items of your artwork. Please submit each piece as an individual attachment/slide to allow the most accessible opportunity for review. Your artist statement should be submitted with your portfolio in the Syracuse University Applicant Portal.
