What will I learn?

The M.S. in Chemical Engineering features core chemical engineering courses, electives, and a concentrated research or independent study experience with the student’s faculty advisor. Electives may be focused in many special subjects, including bioengineering, environmental engineering, computer science, materials science, and manufacturing engineering. New initiatives are underway in the multidisciplinary area of environmental systems that should provide a wealth of opportunities to graduate students in chemical engineering.

Entry requirements

For international students

Prospective students must hold a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemical Engineering. Additional coursework may be required for students without a BS degree in Chemical Engineering or for those who lack adequate preparation. Transcript(s) from every post-secondary institution attended Letters of recommendation Exam Scores: GRE Test Scores – Applicants are recommended to submit a GRE score. Use institution code 2823 when requesting ETS to send your scores electronically to Syracuse University. This is optional for Spring 2026 and Fall 2026 applications. International applicants are required to submit TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo test scores. We require scores from one of these tests only. Personal statement Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV) Financial Documents (international applicants only) – Financial documents are not required for the review of your application for admission. Students may wait and submit financial documents after they receive admission. Please note that submitting financial documents with your application will reduce I-20 processing time.
