What will I learn?

The environmental sciences program cultivates students’ perspectives of environmental issues and provides them with refined knowledge of environmental issues at the local, regional and global level. The program will increase the student’s technical competence in addressing and analyzing these issues, their origins, ramifications and resolutions, and is designed to enhance and promote professional education and career opportunities in a wide area of interests. SIUE’s environmental technology and assessment emphasis focuses on applying scientific principles, advanced technologies, and regulatory frameworks to evaluate and mitigate environmental contamination. Students gain hands-on experience with field sampling, laboratory instrumentation, and data analysis to measure pollutants in air, water, and soil. The program covers risk assessment, geographic information system (GIS) applications, waste management regulations, and the development of sustainable solutions that protect ecosystems and human health.
