What will I learn?

Saint Louis University's 30-credit Master of Science in Health Informatics is offered fully online and fully in-person, designed for clinicians, health care professionals and researchers. Health care organizations face increasing complexity in data management, electronic health systems, and evidence-based decision-making. There is a pressing need for professionals skilled in health informatics to improve patient care, enhance operational efficiency, and address health disparities. SLU's M.S. in health informatics addresses this need by providing applied, rigorous training in informatics tools, clinical workflows, and ethical, data-driven decision-making. The flexible format ensures accessibility for working professionals, preparing graduates to lead innovation and improve healthcare outcomes locally, nationally, and globally.Demonstrate mastery of the theories, principles, and applications of health informatics, including system design, EHR implementation, and interoperability standards that support high-quality, efficient health care delivery.Apply database design, data modeling, statistical analysis, and machine learning methods to organize, analyze and interpret clinical and administrative health data for evidence-based decision-making.Interpret and apply federal, state and organizational policies including HIPAA and HITECH to ensure data privacy, information security, and ethical use of health data.Utilize leadership, project management, and implementation of frameworks to plan, execute, and evaluate health IT and informatics projects across clinical and population health settings.Integrate informatics competencies in real-world or research environments through practicum or capstone experiences, demonstrating critical thinking, collaboration and effective communication.

Entry requirements

For international students

pApplicants must have an undergraduate degree in communication science and disorders or have successfully completed the prerequisite courses in the field.ppIndividuals with a bachelor's degree in a different discipline are not eligible for admission into the graduate program until completion of the undergraduate prerequisite courses. Students may be eligible for admission into the speech, language and hearing sciences leveling program.ppStudents must meet clinical practicum eligibility requirements for participation in the required clinical practicum.
