As a Mathematics major, you gain a solid foundation in the knowledge and skills that underlie mathematics. Our courses cover topics such as the mathematical basis for computers, computer languages and advanced concepts in mathematics. Developing expertise in these and other related areas, you build the habits of thought needed for mastering concepts in mathematics - concepts applicable to many fields as well as advanced academic study. Mathematicians find employment in almost every sector of today’s high-tech economy. They teach, assess financial risk, measure, and interpret data and find ways to transform natural resources. Their work also is vital to ensuring the safety of computer systems and even helping to sustain the environment. In fact, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that jobs for mathematicians will rise 16 percent over the next eight years.
