DePaul’s MS in Mathematics for Teaching is the only graduate program in the area for career-changers planning to teach math at the community college level. Intensive weekend and evening sessions focus on Differential and integral calculus, numerical algorithms related to calculus and implementation of these algorithms using graphing calculators and web-based softwareEuclidean and non-Euclidean geometry using software packages that emphasize content connected to the high school curriculumDiscrete mathematical structures with an emphasis on logic, proof and mathematical reasoningProbability and statistics with an introduction to combinatoricsHistory of elementary number theory, algebra and geometryTopics in abstract algebra that relate to high school courses in algebra, geometry and trigonometryDifferential equations and advanced linear algebra andTopics in real analysis with an emphasis on improving calculus instruction.The program can be completed in as few as 27 months on the Lincoln Park Campus or online.

Entry requirements

For international students

The master's program in Mathematics for Teaching welcomes both current teachers and career-changers, regardless of whether or not they were mathematics majors as undergraduates. To be eligible for admission, applicants need only hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. English Proficiency. International student applicants must submit proof of English language proficiency in order to be reviewed for admission. The College of Science and Health accepts scores from the TOEFL, the IELTS and the Duolingo English Test (DET) as proof of English proficiency. Students who have previously earned an undergraduate or graduate degree in a country where the official native language is recognized as English may be exempt from the English language proficiency requirement.
