What will I learn?

The Master of Arts degree program in music is designed to increase the candidate's professional competence, to increase the ability for continued self-directed study, and to provide opportunity for greater depth in the chosen area of concentration within the field of musicOur program provides undergraduate and graduates instruction in music for those planning professional careers as performers, composers, and studio teachers, as well as those preparing for advanced degrees in performance and composition. It also provides State-approved subject matter preparation required for a California teaching credential in music, and graduate instruction for students planning professional and academic careers or seeking professional growth as K-12 teachers or junior college instructors. Students can also acquire a broad acquaintance with music for the community and non-music major.The Master of Arts degree in Music program at Fresno State is designed to increase the candidate's professional competence, to increase the ability for continued self-directed study, and to provide opportunity for greater depth in the chosen area of emphasis within the field of music.

Entry requirements

For international students

A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 is required. Applicants with a GPA between 2.75 and 2.99 may be considered, however, for these applicants the GRE General Test is required.
A bachelor's degree in music (or the equivalent) is required.

English language Score: TOEFL – 80 iBT, or IELTS – 6.5, or Pearsons Test of English - 53, or iTEP – 4.5. Application Deadlines: Fall - April 1 and Spring - November 1.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
