What will I learn?

The Zoology Department offers M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs that emphasize original research and advanced training in ecology & ecosystem studies, environmental toxicology, genetics, evolution & population biology, fisheries & aquaculture, wildlife administration & management and wildlife ecology & management. Our Ph.D. students can gain experience in teaching at the college level through the Graduate Instructor Program. Interactions with other SIUC departments provide extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary studies.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants for the Ph.D. in Zoology degree must have a solid background in biological science, hold a master's degree, and have a grade point average in graduate work of 3.25 or above. Applicants with a graduate GPA less than 3.25 will be considered on individual merit. Direct entry to the Ph.D. in Zoology program for students with only a bachelor's degree, or accelerated entry from the M.S. in Zoology program, is possible for students demonstrating exceptional potential.

The English language requirement may be met by submitting: 550 on the paper-based TOEFL; 80 on the internet-based TOEFL; 6
