What will I learn?

Ball State’s PhD in human bioenergetics will prepare you for an exciting and fulfilling research career in exercise physiology or related disciplines. Our program, founded in 1981, has graduated over 60 students into the professional research world of exercise physiology. The PhD program is research intensive and should be pursued only by students who have a serious commitment to the science of exercise physiology and have a strong background in exercise physiology as well as the basic sciences (chemistry and biology).The PhD in Bioenergetics requires 90 credits of graduate work. Thirty of those credits can come from your MS degree. The doctor of philosophy (PhD) degree in human bioenergetics is designed to prepare students for research careers in exercise physiology. The doctoral degree will require approximately three years to complete and will give students the competencies necessary to deal with biochemical and physiological problems in exercise physiology. It is conducted in cooperation with the Department of Biology.

Entry requirements

For international students

To be eligible for admission to a doctoral or specialist degree program, you must have earned a minimum of a 3.0 GPA from the undergraduate degree-granting institution. For doctoral and specialist degrees that require a masters degree for admission, you must have earned a minimum of a 3.2 GPA from the master's degree-granting institution. You must have a master's degree or higher from an institution recognized by a USDE accrediting association. You must have earned a minimum of a 3.2 GPA from the master's degree-granting institution. You must have two semesters of organic chemistry (organic 1 and organic 2) with lab are required for acceptance into the program, as these are a prerequisite for the biochemistry course (CHEM 563) you will take your first semester.
