What will I learn?

The Professional Science Master’s (PSM) in Ecosystem Science and Sustainability (ESS) is an interdisciplinary graduate degree that empowers students with the in-demand skills, advanced scientific knowledge, and on-the-job experience to launch impactful careers in sustainability. Students can tailor their studies in carbon management, climate risk management, water resources, or sustainable food systems to align with their career goals. By emphasizing in-demand skills such as coding, modeling, data science, and policy analysis, the PSM program equips students for success in fast-growing industries. Rather than a thesis or group project, students complete a 400-hour professional internship, gaining practical experience while building their resume and professional network. The program can be completed in as little as three semesters, and students can earn credits online before arriving at CSU. Three semesters plus a hands-on internship.

Entry requirements

For international students

Completion of a bachelors degree equivalent to a U.S. Bachelors degree from an institution that is recognized by a governmental national higher education authority (at the time the degree was earned). Transcripts of all collegiate work completed. In general, the minimum cumulative GPA for non-provisional admittance is a 3.000 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) to be admitted by the Graduate School. Departments may require a higher GPA. For admission of international applicants, the minimum grade for non-provisional admittance is a B grade equivalent. The grade equivalency is the recommended U.S. grade equivalent, not the GPA equivalent.
