Arizona State University facilities include: Jazz Complex, Music Library, Organ Hall, Concert Hall and Recital Hall. The School of Music presents 800 plus recitals and concerts each year. Students pursuing the Bachelor of Music program in theory and composition choose a concentration in either theory or composition. The theory concentration provides opportunities to dive into the science behind how people perceive and understand music while developing fluency with the theoretical foundations of musical analysis. Students collaborate with expert faculty members and peers who share their curiosity for how music interacts with critical aspects of human experience such as memory, emotion, culture and meaning. Through coursework, students learn techniques to analyze form, melody, harmony, rhythm and timbre across diverse styles of music and develop research skills to generate new insights about musical experience.
