What will I learn?

The LL.M. in U.S., International, and Transnational Law is designed for foreign lawyers and law graduates who want a broader understanding of the United States legal system and international legal issues. The LL.M. in U.S., International, and Transnational Law offers flexibility in the choice of law courses as well as the opportunity to conduct independent research. Students enrolled in the program attend courses and seminars along with J.D. students and can take advantage of Chicago-Kent’s cutting-edge expertise in areas such as information technology law, e-commerce, and financial services law. Electives include International Law, Comparative Law, International Business Transactions, International Trade Law, European Union Law, International Aspects of Intellectual Property, International Human Rights, and Immigration Law. The LL.M. in U.S., International, and Transnational Law is designed for foreign lawyers and law graduates who want a broader understanding of the United States legal system and international legal issues.

Entry requirements

For international students

Foreign attorneys and law students are welcome to apply. The LL.M. Program in U.S., International, and Transnational Law is not open to attorneys holding a J.D. degree from an American law school. Two letters of recommendation are required. The recommendation letters will enable us to assess the applicant's capacity for advanced legal study. Applicants can request a recommendation letter from their references via email by adding the references' contact email address in the applicant portal. Applicants who are practicing lawyers must submit a notarized copy of their License to Practice. In addition, practicing lawyers must also submit an official original copy of their law school transcript, bearing the stamp or seal of the school. These documents can be uploaded directly online to the applicant portal in PDF format. Applicants who are currently in law school must submit an official original copy of their law school transcript, bearing the stamp or seal of the school. These documents can be uploaded directly online to the applicant portal in PDF format.
