What will I learn?

For Spanish speakers, communication with healthcare providers is critical to finding care. It can even become a significant barrier. In this program, you'll learn the basics of communicating in Spanish and then practice real-world applications in a healthcare setting. These skills will help you interact with Spanish-speaking patients with confidence, knowing that improved communication often means better patient outcomes. Healthcare communication happens verbally, in writing, and with technology, so you¿ll practice all of these skills. Practical experience in working with short reports, prescriptions, instructions, descriptions, diagnoses, and other topics of interest in the healthcare system will equip you for a diverse array of positions in the field. Immersed in the Flagstaff campus, you'll learn from the unique perspective of Northern Arizona's Spanish-speaking communities. The skills you gain will help you become a functional healthcare practitioner for Spanish speakers across Arizona and the entire United States.
