About Sunway University

Part of the Sunway Education Group owned by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF), Sunway University is among Malaysia’s leading private universities, dedicated to upholding its core values of integrity, humility and excellence. The JCF is Malaysia’s largest education-focused social enterprise. Through the foundation’s unique not-for-profit structure, operating surpluses are invested back into the institutions or disbursed as research grants, scholarships and expansion funds to ensure quality education.

Sunway University supports the discovery and application of knowledge that addresses the needs of society and the global community. The university is one of only 11 universities in Malaysia to be awarded the “Premier Digital Technology University” status. The Sunway University campus is located within walking distance of the Sunway Pyramid Mall, among the largest in Malaysia and the region, the Sunway Medical Centre, one of the best equipped private hospitals in Southeast Asia, and many more amenities. It is easily accessible via the bus rapid transit (BRT) and by the green canopy walkways from around Sunway City. Study options

Sunway University offers a wide range of courses across nine schools and faculties:

School of American Education

The school offers the American Degree Transfer Program in partnership with Arizona State University, which allows students to complete the first two years of their undergraduate degree at Sunway University and then transfer to the US to complete their degree.

Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

The school offers courses in subjects such as creative arts, media, interior design, film production, music performance and much more.

School of Education

The school has a vision to develop future educators and leaders and create an environment that promotes critical thinking.

Faculty of Engineering and Technology

Along with knowledge and skills in engineering and technology, the school develops confidence and professionalism in students.

School of Hospitality and Tourism Management

The school is a gateway to a world of excellence, facilitating students’ entry into the dynamic industries of hospitality, culinary and events, with top-notch training, innovative teaching methods and state-of-the-art facilities.

School of Mathematical Sciences

The school’s programmes pave the way for careers in actuarial science, insurance, data science and many other fields.

Faculty of Medical and Life Sciences

Sunway Business School

Centre for English Language Studies (CELS)

The Centre for English Language Studies (CELS) facilitates the holistic development of English language fluency and accuracy in students.

High-quality internet bandwidth

Students benefit from the university’s Wi-Fi that is available throughout the main campus. Other benefits of the high-quality bandwidth include access to international educational research networks in the UK, Singapore and Australia.

A world-class library

The university’s ISO 9001:2015 certified library is among the largest of its kind in private institutions in Malaysia. Students can access thousands of e-journals and large international databases using state-of-the-art technology. The 72,000 square feet library accommodates a viewing zone, conference rooms, training rooms and IT facilities.

Health and Wellness 

High quality, basic medical attention in cases of minor injuries is available on campus. For emergency medical attention, there is the Sunway Medical Centre which is within campus connectivity. Comprehensive mental health and counselling services are also available. 

Sunway Career Readiness Programme

Sunway University’s Career Readiness Programme (CRP) aims to prepare students to be career-ready and develop into sought-after graduates.

Sports facilities

The university’s extensive sports facilities include a FIFA Certified Artificial Football Field, tennis court and outdoor courts for football, basketball, volleyball and many more sports. There is also an Olympic-sized swimming pool, designed to accommodate both recreational swimmers and competitive athletes.

Lancaster University

Sunway University has forged an enduring educational partnership over the years with Lancaster University, one of the most outstanding British research universities, which regularly features in the top 10 in the UK. Students of Sunway University can obtain a dual degree from Lancaster in addition to their Sunway University degree, thereby giving them the opportunity to earn a prestigious international qualification.

Le Cordon Bleu

Sunway University stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Le Cordon Bleu International, among the most highly rated hospitality and culinary training organisations in the world. Graduates of certified Sunway University culinary and hospitality programmes can obtain a degree/diploma with a parchment from Le Cordon Bleu.

University of Cambridge

Through the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF), Sunway University has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Cambridge in order to strengthen collaboration between Malaysia and the United Kingdom, in education and research.

Research and Industry Collaborations

Sunway University has major collaborations with renowned research institutes, including Future Cities Research Institute, Jeffrey Cheah Institute on Southeast Asia, Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development, Sunway Institute for Global Strategy and Competitiveness (IGSC), and Sunway Centre for Planetary Health.

The Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF) Travel Grant provides opportunities for scholars from Sunway University and Harvard University to visit each other’s institutions to undertake research projects. The JCF also supports a scholar-in-residence scheme at Brasenose College, Oxford, to aid researchers from Sunway University.

Sunway Career Services strives to ensure that Sunway University produces quality graduates by fostering partnerships with the industry, and the esteemed employers. The university engages closely with 6000-plus industry partners to gauge their recruitment requirements and assist students to meet the conditions and enhance their careers. 

Sunway Career Services offers a range of services, including weekly talks on soft skills, career network events, on-campus interviews, internship workshops and career advisory services.

Rankings & accreditation

Sunway University is a forward-looking, globally connected university, and one of the most exciting campus destinations in the warm heart of tropical Malaysia.

The release of the QS World University Rankings 2024, where the university is placed at number 539 globally, reflects its commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. Sunway University was also the 103rd-ranked university in Asia, according to the QS Asia University Rankings 2024 and features in the top 250 universities in Asia, as ranked by the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2024. The university has also been recognised as being within the top 300 best universities in the world that are 50 years old or younger by THE rankings.

Sunway University has also shown improvement and promise in specific fields, securing commendably high rankings in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023. The university ranked among the top 150 universities globally for hospitality and leisure management, the top 250 universities for art and design and in the top 450 for business and management studies.
