Part of the Sunway Education Group owned by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF), Sunway University is among Malaysia’s leading private universities, dedicated to upholding its core values of integrity, humility and excellence. The school offers the American Degree Transfer Program in partnership with Arizona State University, which allows students to complete the first two years of their undergraduate degree at Sunway University and then transfer to the US to complete their degree.

High quality, basic medical attention in cases of minor injuries is available on campus. For emergency medical attention, there is the Sunway Medical Centre which is within campus connectivity. Comprehensive mental health and counselling services are also available.

Sunway University has forged an enduring educational partnership over the years with Lancaster University, one of the most outstanding British research universities, which regularly features in the top 10 in the UK. Students of Sunway University can obtain a dual degree from Lancaster in addition to their Sunway University degree, thereby giving them the opportunity to earn a prestigious international qualification.
Sunway University stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Le Cordon Bleu International, among the most highly rated hospitality and culinary training organisations in the world. Graduates of certified Sunway University culinary and hospitality programmes can obtain a degree/diploma with a parchment from Le Cordon Bleu.
Through the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF), Sunway University has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Cambridge in order to strengthen collaboration between Malaysia and the United Kingdom, in education and research.

The Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF) Travel Grant provides opportunities for scholars from Sunway University and Harvard University to visit each other’s institutions to undertake research projects. The JCF also supports a scholar-in-residence scheme at Brasenose College, Oxford, to aid researchers from Sunway University.

The release of the QS World University Rankings 2024, where the university is placed at number 539 globally, reflects its commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. Sunway University was
also the 103rd-ranked university in Asia, according to the QS Asia University Rankings 2024 and features in the top 250 universities in Asia, as ranked by the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2024. The university has also been recognised as being within the top 300 best universities in the world that are 50 years old or younger by THE rankings.
Sunway University has also shown improvement and promise in specific fields, securing commendably high rankings in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023. Established in 2010, the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation replaced the Sunway Education Trust Fund set up in 1997. To date, the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation has awarded over RM745 million in scholarships to numerous students across various fields of study. The following are the scholarships on offer:
