Sunway University’s six schools offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across a variety of subject areas for international students.
Equipping its students with advanced skills and best business practice exposure, SUBS is a leading business school in the ASEAN Region. Its programmes are authenticated by Lancaster University in the UK and it is also a member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
This school imparts skills in treating, rehabilitating, counselling and educating patients via its Diploma in Nursing.
The school prepares students for careers in biology, computing, information systems and psychology through exposure to the latest teaching and learning practices, and research-informed programmes.
The school’s BSc (Hons) Actuarial Studies programme includes applying statistical and mathematical techniques in the financial domain, and prepares students for professional exams that lead to recognised actuary status or specialisations in the financial risk and insurance industries.
The school’s degree and diploma programmes embrace new trends and learning practices, in line with the ever-changing nature of the hospitality industry. The school seeks to equip students with the vital skills necessary to work in this vibrant industry.
This school offers a variety of disciplines, ranging from communication and liberal arts to performing arts, through a hands-on approach for students that allows them to explore the vast landscape of the arts, from the processes of creation to curation.
Additionally, there is the American Degree Transfer Programme, which allows students to study for the first part of their degree at Sunway and then transfer seamlessly to a university in the US. The university also offers an Intensive English programme.
Sunway University aims to make a real impact in the world, and places enormous emphasis on the development of its research profile through its nine research centres that conducts studies across various disciplines. With able support from the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, Sunway University invests heavily in upgrading its research infrastructure, and recruiting academics with strong research profiles and a proven track-record of publication in leading journals.
The university has also commissioned brand new, state-of-the-art laboratories and other amenities to facilitate this enhancement. Thus, international students at Sunway have the benefit of working in a highly vibrant and conducive research environment.
Already, Sunway University’s ground-breaking, innovative research is beginning to make its impact felt around the world. From work on anticancer drugs inspired by cockroaches to the digital preservation of cultural heritage; and from crystal engineering to understanding social behaviour across species, Sunway’s research efforts are already contributing in various ways to the betterment of the world.
Sunway University is a vibrant, dynamic community where there’s always something happening – in the form of events, workshops, seminars and much more. The Department of Psychology of Sunway University hosted members from the University of Western Australia’s (UWA) Faculty of Science in January 2019 to discuss collaborations between the universities.
Staff from Sunway University’s School of Science and Technology including, Professor Serguei Demidenko (the Dean), Professor Nigel Marsh (Associate Dean) and Dr Alvin Ng Lai Oon (Head of the Department of Psychology) met with the UWA delegation and explored opportunities for collaborative teaching degree programmes at postgraduate level.
It was also discussed that the UWA’s pioneering Master of Business Psychology would be the ideal point of origin for this combined venture. The postgraduate programme has significant demand among industries and involves working together with a World Top 100 university like the UWA.
Over 300 researchers across the South East Asian region gathered at Sunway University in December 2018 for the inaugural ASEAN Emerging Researchers Conference (AERC) 2018.
The conference was held over two days and was organised by Sunway University in partnership with the University of Cambridge, Wolfson College, the Young Scientist Network (YSN) Malaysia and the Cambridge University Malaysia Society.
The international conference involved talks, forums, lectures, workshops, proposal pitching and presentations. The event concluded with a gala dinner formatted in a Cambridge-style hall, which gave the participants a Cambridge experience.

Sunway University is committed to providing access to higher education for deserving students through merit-based scholarships and bursaries.
The Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, established in March 2010 and named after the Chairman of Sunway Group has, as of 2017, awarded more than RM 402 million in scholarships to thousands of deserving students in various fields of study.
Through the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, Sunway College has continuously disbursed scholarships and education funds to deserving students through scholarships/awards. The university offers a whole host of scholarships and bursaries, and the primary among them are listed below:

There is also the Jeffrey Cheah Scholastic Award, awarded to students who achieve outstanding results in their individual academic programme at the end of their course.
All of Sunway University’s academic programmes adhere to high international compliance standards. The university has been ranked among the top 2% of institutions in Asia in the 2019 edition of the QS World University Rankings for Asia. It has also been awarded the highest distinction of 5-star ratings in the 2018 QS Stars University Ratings for teaching, employability and facilities (which is valid until 2021).
Sunway University has maintained its Tier 5 “excellent” rating in the 2017 Malaysian Rating for University and University College Excellence (SETARA-2017) - a certification of quality it has held since 2009.
These ratings affirm Sunway’s core strengths of top-quality academic staff, distinction in teaching and research, as well as the infrastructure and latest facilities on campus that enhance the learning experience of students. Its students are provided with plenty of opportunities to expand and apply their knowledge owing to the university’s emphasis on research and its advanced teaching methods.

Sunway University offers students a host of facilities to enhance their time on campus. The sprawling 22-acre campus, located on prime land in Sunway City, Petaling Jaya, is fully equipped with academic, hostel and sports facilities.
Students can experience e-Learning and benefit from the university’s Wi-Fi that is available throughout the main campus including the university buildings, lecture halls, library, classrooms, cafeteria, the concourse and open areas.
Other more advanced benefits of the high-quality bandwidth include direct linkage into international Educational Research networks in the UK, Australia and Singapore, and enhanced delivery of multimedia content. Student Wi-Fi accounts also provide access to facilities like scanning, photocopying and printing.
With an annual investment of over RM 2.5 million, Sunway University’s library is ISO 9001:2008 certified and is among the largest of its kind in Malaysia for private educational institutions. It offers easy access to thousands of e-journals and large international databases facilitated by state-of-the-art technology.
Spanning across 72,000 square feet of floor space, the library accommodates a viewing zone, conference rooms, training rooms and IT facilitates – among a variety of other learning spaces.
There are four specialised computer learning laboratories on campus with more than 100 units of public PCs open for students’ usage. Wi-Fi access is also available through the library area.
Academics apart, Sunway boasts enviable infrastructure to support cultural, leisure and recreational pursuits of students. From athletics and tennis to judo and frisbee, students have a range of options open to them, and numerous sports clubs to help them further pursue their sporting interests.
