This scholarship supports access to higher education for students holding asylum seeker bridging or temporary protection visas as a result of their arrival to Australia as asylum seekers or humanitarian entrants. As these students are generally not eligible for Commonwealth Supported Places or government loan schemes, the scholarship enables participation in university study at Macquarie University.

About the scholarship

The Macquarie Advantage Humanitarian Scholarship provides full tuition fee support for students from refugee and asylum?seeking backgrounds to undertake undergraduate study at Macquarie University.

Duration

This scholarship is awarded for the full duration of the course, subject to meeting ongoing eligibility criteria.

Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be from a refugee or asylum-seeking background, including those with lived experience of displacement.

Hold a Temporary Protection Visa (subclass V785), or Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (SHEV) (subclass V790), or Bridging Visa (BV) A (subclass V010), or Bridging Visa (BV) E (Subclass V050 or V051), or Temporary Humanitarian Stay (subclass V786), or Temporary Humanitarian Stay (subclass V449).

Applicants holding a bridging visa will also need to submit a letter or relevant documentation from a recognised organisation supporting their status as a refugee or asylum seeker and must ensure they have Australian study rights whilst holding that visa.

Receive an offer of admission to an undergraduate degree at Macquarie University and intend to commence study in the year the scholarship is offered.
