One Scholarship will be awarded once ever three years for a period of up to three years and will be of the value of $7,000 per annum. To be eligible for Scholarship consideration, an applicant must be enrolled, or enrolling, full-time in a PhD specialising in the area of Marine Science at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland. The Scholarship is tenable by domestic or international students.

The basis of selection will be academic merit as assessed by the grade point average (GPA) or grade point equivalent (GPE) calculated over the qualifying programme for entry to the PhD, and the quality and relevance of the proposed research to the academic mission of Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland's Institute of Marine Science. Matters that may be considered in relation to academic merit include, but are not limited to, academic record, standing of awarding institution, academic references, CV and research and publication record.
