“I knew I wanted to study Communications at ECU, and PIBT helped me reach my goal.”

I chose to study the Diploma of Communications at PIBT to gain entry into ECU’s Bachelor of Communications because I knew that the small size classes would ease my transition into university.

PIBT has made it simple for me to move to a new country away from my family. The personalised support I have received has given me confidence in my abilities to succeed in my studies.

ECU’s reputation preceded itself: the media facilities are amazing and fully up-to-date; the lecturers are supportive and very knowledgeable; and the students are so welcoming.

I love studying at the Mount Lawley Campus so much that I’m considering continuing on with a Masters degree after I complete my Bachelor degree.

The skills I learnt during my studies were of great help during my internship

After completing my Diploma of Management at PIBT, I enrolled in the Bachelor of Hotel and Resort Management at ECU. I was aware of ECU’s great reputation in the field of hospitality and my course offered a six-month internship, which was extremely appealing to me.

I did my internship at the Four Points Sheraton in Perth and I got paid for three out of the 6-month internship. Working in the real world was very exciting and it gave me a lot of confidence in the skills I learned during my studies. I was so pleased to get positive feedback from my employer and guests.

A reputable university with high rankings

Like every new student, I was a bit scared of studying at university but I found the ECU students, staff, and lecturers very friendly and approachable, which made my transition to university life much easier.

ECU’s brand new engineering facilities, links with industry, and hands-on teaching means that I am learning what is relevant in the engineering world today, and I am confident that this will prepare me to work in the real world.

WAAPA has nurtured my creativity without taking away my artistic integrity

I chose WAAPA to further my postgraduate studies because of its reputation in the field of performing arts and because the program offered a wide range of specialisations. As a performing arts practitioner, recognition of the value of artistic work and creative practice research such as performance is very important. WAAPA encourages and supports ‘practice’ in research, which has greatly expanded my potential as an academic as well as a performer on an international level.

WAAPA supervisors and staff are very encouraging, making you aware of all opportunities in the local as well as international performing arts scene. I have presented my research in many different major conferences and I have been accepted to the summer academy at Theatre Academy Helsinki, Finland, because of the active awareness and support from my supervisors.

In addition to having well-known artists lecturing in many specialisations, WAAPA has great facilities such as a postgraduate laboratory, studios, and the latest technical equipment.

The creative exchange atmosphere is vibrant throughout the whole academy. Simply, WAAPA is the best!

Excellent Student Support

As an international student, I’ve found ECU to be very supportive and accommodating. Not only have I received academic writing and research support from lecturers and supervisors, I’ve also had access to fantastic on-campus facilities and resources such as regular research workshops, an e-lab, IT support services and an impressive library. I have utilised all of these services from my very first semester. Now,Iam starting to develop my thesis and aim to have results published. The possibilities are endless!

Through my studies I developed key relationships in the industry

In the security industry, the contacts that you have developed along the way can be the difference in who will offer their services. Studying at ECU has provided me with the contacts and experience I will need in the workforce.

With travelling becoming easier and more affordable each day, I feel it is important to keep our borders, and the people travelling, safe. ECU has equipped me with the skills to think fast, to present on the spot and to know where to look for information if I do not know the answer to any questions. All of which will ensure a safer and secure future.

“I now feel more prepared for a career in teaching”

After teaching English in Taiwan for eight years, I knew teaching was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. At first, I considered going back home to Canada to further my qualifications, but the idea of studying in Australia seemed so much more exciting. One day, a representative from ECU came to Taiwan and talked about the course ECU offered. I did some research and found out that I knew a few people from back home who had graduated from ECU with the same courses I was interested in. They all recommended ECU to me.

The ECU lecturers were extremely helpful whenever I had questions about assignments. The Mount Lawley campus is safe, modern looking and its layout is very user friendly. Living on campus in the student village was great! My classes, the computer lab, and the on-campus gym were less than five minutes away from my room!

During my studies, I was required to participate in two practicums and it was a great way for me to implement what I had learned in the lectures and tutorials. Each practicum really boosted my confidence and assisted with my overall understanding of the unit material. After graduating, I felt more prepared to teach students and more aware of the things that work and do not work in the classroom.

Although I had experience teaching before attending ECU, my course provided me with a wealth of information regarding teaching strategies and curriculum content. I now have a very clear idea of the kind of school I would like to work at and I am certain that with my experience and new qualification, I will have more opportunities.

ECU’s Master of Project Management is well recognised

I wanted to further my university studies in a different field after my business degree and decided to study the Master of Project Management. ECU’s course is well recognised and offers extensive knowledge of the industry as well as practical assignments.

Studying this program gave me practice at teamwork and taught me to prioritise, it also enhanced my research skills as well as my report writing, which I use everyday atwork.

The lecturers are very approachable and responsive and they promote learning through experience sharing, so I was able to learn from classmates as well as my lecturers. Thefacilities are up to date and modern and I enjoyed going to Mount Lawley.

My greatest achievement was to receive the Australian Institute of Project Management Postgraduate Award for 2013 in recognition for my achievements throughout the course.

Unique course composition - Finance and Banking

I thought my course would involve a lot of theory, like my Bachelor degree did, however, I found out that the assignments were very hands-on and practical, which tested my knowledge while preparing me for real world experience. The lecturers are very knowledgeable and friendly while being professional, so they are easily approachable for any subject related questions.
