Researching at Birmingham

I'm a PHD student in the university of Birmingham and my overall experience has been quite good. I have noticed some drawbacks however that are quite important for our studies. The support for Grad students is fairly poor: no free printing, no free interlibrary loan, poor work areas, small research grants for conferences and the like are readily available, though, and the stuff is very friendly and very helpful. Student housing is poor and overpriced but it's located in a good part of town. The library resources are decent and the gym is small and underequipped but relatively cheap.

An all-round experience

I've had a fab time at the uni so far. I've made great friends, volunteered for exciting projects and worked on interesting ideas! 

If you are just starting/planning to start, make sure you get involved in activities beyond academia. It makes for a great learning experience.

The most beautiful campus I have ever seen

I really admire the greenness of the campus. Facilities are really wealthy and helpful a great deal. If I advice someone about Birmingham university, I would definitely mention the cooperative staff in all the facilities in the university.
