Go for UD

I am Florian from Munich in Germany. I finished high school in Germany and now I am looking forward to study in the US. I just began to study Communication in January 2014 but already like it a lot. The system is pretty familiar because I went to a Boarding School in Germany so I am used to live on campus and share my room with others. You might think there are huge differences and difficulties, like the language or the culture, but let me tell you something. I was really scared when I left my family and flew thousands of miles to a foreign city. It is a big step but it is also a great opportunity. Studying abroad is challenging and takes all your passion and effort but you will learn to appreciate and start loving it. I really do appreciate that I got the chance to study at UD and I can just recommend giving it a try! There is a variety of visiting and discover programs, which can give you an idea of studying in a foreign country. Go for it!

UD and Me

My dream was to study in the US since I was a kid. I have been always dreaming of being a student here so I can enjoy my education as well as all the nice places here in the US. I was looking for the best education that entitles me to pursue a higher education and allows me to design and innovate the things I have been dreaming of since I was a kid like cars, robots, and mechanical machines. When I first came to the US, I had no clear idea about where I want to pursue my bachelor dgree. But after visiting UD for the first time, I knew that was the place for me so Idecided to join. I have heared that UD has nice facilities that assure the best education but when I became a student here I became impressed with the facilities that UD provides such as library fully equiped, labs, tutoring, student clubs, and high-tech classrooms. Teachers at UD are exeptional! No matter how I emphesize on how awesome they are I won’t be able to say it perrfectly. They use very creative methods of teaching where they can show nice skills of communication. Being a student at UD does not mean having lectures only but also means to be a part of group of nice peole who are willing to learn, lead, and be creative. I am sponsored by the Kuwaiti Minstiry of Higher Education. I like that we have lots of student clubs at UD. I am doing my best to learn as much as possible about mechanical designs and robotics since I believe it will be in a very useful use in my home country. Studying in the US will not only let you have an excellent education but it will also grant you to explore other cultures, make new friends, and have a better understanding of the sense of community and how to be a productive member in the human family.

Why I love UD

I’m a senior student in Chemical Engineering. I will graduate soon, and I am proud that I chose UD because I would never get the same experience if I went to other school. At the beginning, I was afraid of the decision that I made which is studying outside my country, away from my family and culture. However, once I arrived to The University of Dayton all of these fears were gone. Fear had gone because of the UD community which I had never seen a community like it. UD community welcomes students with faith, smile, and love. The diversity of UD makes the place more beautiful. We start our day by hearing the chapel’s bell that inspires us to work hard and fill our hearts with strength and determination. During my study, I did not find any difficulties because of many reasons but the main reason is that I am a UD student. I know that my graduation is coming soon, and I will be leaving. Therefore, I am talking from experience; the new students will have a wonderful time here. I believe now it was the best decision that I made in my life, and it is your time to make it. I love UD because it gave me the key to have a successful life.

Why UD?

People say some choices are difficult to make. But I believe it’s the decisions that are more difficult to make. It was a hard decision for me to make to come to UD. But, it’s one of the best decisions I have made till date.
In January 2012, I was here as an exchange student for one semester. This was the first time I was away from home and away from family for such a long time. Being a lactose-based vegetarian, it was tough to get used to the United States culture and lifestyle. The initial stages were tough. But as Darwin said, “Survival of the Fittest”, the new surroundings helped me develop a variety of survival skills.
To start with, I was entirely dependent on someone or the other back in my country. But over here, I learned to do a lot of things all by myself. For example, fixing the bike, changing of bulbs, cleaning of my room, putting all the furniture together, cooking and doing my own laundry and a lot of other things like these. I was able to learn all this because of what UD has taught me. It taught me to be independent in life. This is something I will never forget and cherish forever.
Over the next few months, I was enjoying the freedom and the independence I received from the country and the University. And before I knew it, what seemed like a difficult decision months ago, without any second thoughts, I decided that I will pursue my Masters at UD. Although I had to sacrifice a lot to get here, I still don’t regret anything and I will be always grateful to UD for everything it has given me and everything I learnt from it.

Life at University of Dayton

My name is Jing Zuo and I am from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, where I majored in Electrical and Computational Engineering.
This is my first year at the University of Dayton and I am still excited about being able to study here. As an engineering student, I am especially attracted by the extraordinary advanced technologies in the US. Having the chance of taking a close look at these technologies is a dream of me. Therefore, motivated to grasp a comprehensive knowledge and practical skills, I applied to enroll in the Master of Electrical and Computational Engineering program at the University of Dayton.
With the top scholars and advanced facilities as well as 10 specialized laboratories, all of us are promised to experience a great enhancement in our academic ability by taking the theoretical and hand-on trainings. This enhancement can lead us to good job opportunities either in American or back to China.
It’s not easy for us to step out the protection of our parents and face the challenge all alone. But this is also a great opportunities for us to be stronger and better. Besides, we are never alone. There is a big family here who support each other. We can find the lifelong friends who fight together and dream together.

UD and I

The idea to do masters especially in United States struck me after I graduated middle school, I firmly hold on to that thought and never gave up and so I finally achieved my dream. I wanted to become a successful engineer and In order to achieve it I need to excel in my field; United States and especially University of Dayton became the primary choice. I am really grateful to my parents who stood by me in all my dream and endeavors; it is because of them I am here.
I chose UD because the faculties here are experienced and are student friendly. UD also provides the infrastructure and also has a dedicated research institute for the students to work on their projects. And for mechanical engineering UD is one of the top ranked universities in US. The campus is one of the safest and student friendly one in the world.
I had the same jitters and fear like every other international student has when they leave their country for higher education. But it was just over within a matter of days and ever since then I feel like I am at my home. The people and the faculties always have a smile on their face which brightens the day and helps to get rid of any stress that I have. I participated in all the international club events and few others which helped me get lot of friends and made my stay in US an unforgettable one in my life.
The on campus job is another addition to the long list of things I love about UD, I get to meet new people every single day and the job is interesting and challenging at times. The friends I have and the on campus events are the one which I love the most about UD. The biggest surprise for me was that in short time I made so many friends and I will never ever regret my decision to join UD ever in my life. I will remain a flyer forever.

Why I Love University of Dayton

There’s no better place to learn about aircraft than the birthplace of aviation.

I’m a graduate student, currently pursing my Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Dayton. I received an offer to pursue an integrated Bachelor’s plus Master’s program, while pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in India. This allows me to complete my undergraduate as well as my graduate studies within a period of 5 years, hence saving a year.

I am interested in the research and development of low-cost, reusable spacecraft launch mechanisms. The United States of America is the only country which has utilized reusable launch vehicles. I’ve been able to learn a lot under the guidance of professors with years of experience in this field. The faculty to student ratio is higher at the UD, when compared to the universities back home. The professors are experienced and friendly. There is a myriad of academic and extra-curricular opportunities and resources at UD, which help students to better themselves, both academically as well as socially.

I haven’t faced any differences in language, since I was brought up in an English-speaking background. I’m a member of the UD International Club. We often go for trips to restaurants, parks, and other tourist spots in Ohio. I get to make friends and meet students from different countries every semester.

The University of Dayton is one of the best places to build an academic career and build cross-cultural relationships. To me, UD has become a second home.
