Best International studying experience ever

I enjoyed the warmness and friendliness of the staff and students, who were always willing to help. As an international student studying thousands of miles away from home, Huddersfield sure felt like home to me. There were always activities and events that kept me engaged and I was happy to get involved with the societies I cared the most about. The facilities are top notch and I was very pleased about Lecture Capture, a platform on student hub online, where each lecture was recorded. I could re-watch my lectures, to grasp what my lecturers said over again and gain deeper understanding.

There are a lot of international events going on in this university. As I am the international student and new to this country, I am happy that I get to make friends easily and find new cultures, values, and FOOD haha through university events. Everyone is really helpful here if you need any help, there are always someone to support you anything!

Challenge yourself!

The University of Huddersfield is a great place, I am from the Czech Republic and I would highly recommend this institution. The international office helped me a lot from the start. For every international student is very challenging to go study in a different country. Because of many and many international events, I met amazing people and explore different cultures. I was amazed of huge and new modern buildings. The sixth-floors library is a great place to study with an amazing view of Castle Hill. There is also a gym with professionals on campus. Everybody is really nice here and I am feeling here like at home :) So challenge yourself and go to the university!

An amazing journey

Being an international student, it's really challenging to adapt to a new place and a completely new system of education. Initially I was really worried about coping up and keeping up to the mark but soon I started feeling confident due to all the support provided by the tutors. They hold extra support sessions for weak students and assignment support sessions to help everyone with the course work. I must say that our placement unit is one of the best placement units here. We get all the help we need to make applications. I could get a placement in Airbus and based on my performance I was even offered a graduate job by the end of the placement. I'm really thankful to the placement unit and the student support for providing me all the support I needed in my journey. Overall, this is a great university and a great place to live in!

I'm going to miss Huddersfield University

It's been the best 4 years of my life! Coming from a different country, the university welcomed me with the friendliest and most supportive people. I really came out of my shell and embraced my student life. I had amazing opportunities to make friends from all around the world, to work for 3 different companies in my placement year, to start a society and get involve with local community.
However, the only complain I have is the lack of organisation in final year modules and staffing. Other than that it was great.

Is the University of Huddersfield the place to be?

I love the facilities that the University has to offer - everything is up to date and rather modern, the library is open 24/7 and is a great help for the basics (printing, scanning, using computers). The tutors are professional and helpful.
As for when applying, I would come and see the town the university is located first (if possible) because I was a little disappointed when I first moved here. I had chosen an accommodation that was located rather far away from the campus, which caused more problems in every day life. I would also check for bursaries and other kind of financial help the University can offer, because some of the courses do not offer this opportunity and it can be a struggle if you can't get a job.
My biggest personal struggle was to overcome homesickness and loneliness after being surrounded by people who love me at home I found myself all alone in the big world. It took me nearly the whole year to overcome these feelings, and second year is much better! Another thing I've been struggling with is the financial side. I cannot find a part-time job and Photography course isn't applicable for any further financial help other than loans from the bank.

the place to be

I find myself loving the experience here at the University of Huddersfield as it is so different from the universities in my home country. Every day is very interesting and diverse, which makes it fun. There are many facilities at the campus useful for both, the studies and leisure activities. I love the fact that the library is open 24/7, meaning that I can do my work at any time suiting for me personally.
As for my course (Photography), I enjoy the modules and the tutors are always there to help. The studio equipment is the best I have work with, and I am sure it's given me a broader range of knowledge when it comes to working in a photographic studio.
The only minus is that students from the art department can't get any financial support (that is if you're a non-UK resident), which I am sometimes struggling with.

I would look into and research on the study programs they're interested in, and re-consider if there are no possible funding for it, because at times it can get difficult money wise
