Supportive Learning Environment

“I’ve always had a passion for marine life and felt this course with a major in marine science would help me better understand the issues threatening marine biodiversity.

As a marine science major student, I chose this university for my bachelor degree as UQ is known for its exceptional research facilities and supportive advisors who can offer insights into various areas of interest in the science field.

Furthermore, with research stations located on North Stradbroke Island and Heron Island near the Great Barrier Reef, students can visit a wide range of places to carry out research projects and to gain valuable skills and experiences.”

Brisbane - Warm and Friendly City

“UQ has had an excellent global reputation in the area of agriculture for a long time. The four year Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Honours) program is structured in a way that equips students with substantial knowledge in different disciplines of agricultural science.

Brisbane is a really warm and pleasant city with plenty of friendly and helpful people. As an agriculture student, I spent my first three years at the Gatton campus - a peaceful and stimulating place. Living in Gatton has provided me with many opportunities to explore, enjoy and appreciate the nature around campus (especially bird watching). Now I am in my final year at the main St Lucia campus. St Lucia offers me a very different study environment to Gatton; there are more students here and it is closer to the city. However, both campuses offer an excellent quality of teaching and facilities.

Most of the lecturers and staff are very friendly and approachable. I also really enjoyed doing some of the genetics courses. If prospective students are interested in doing genetics related programs, UQ is definitely the place to be.”

Ideal Study Environment

“I chose this program because I was interested in animal breeding. I think it is very exciting to know how animals reproduce and how to help them.

Brisbane offers an ideal environment for students. It is not a busy place, but is quite relaxed and peaceful. There is, for example, South Bank which is a great place for gathering with friends, the Gold Coast if you are looking for extreme sports or the Mount Coo-tha look-out from where you have a beautiful view over all of Brisbane. Brisbane is very multicultural which is really comforting when you live thousands of kilometres away from home.

All staff at UQ are very helpful, especially to those students whose first language is not English.”

Research-Intensive University

“UQ’s reputation as a research-intensive university encouraged me to choose it over the five other universities that offered me admission in Australia. Brisbane’s weather was similar to the place in India I am from and I love the beautiful St. Lucia campus which was one of the major factors in my choice of UQ.

It was exciting as well as daunting to travel here on my own, not knowing anyone here. The idea of transition to university from an academic perspective was less worrying to me than being able to adjust to the culture shock. However to my relief, I was welcomed with open hearts and minds by fellow students, academics and Australians in general. Brisbane is nice, quiet and one of the most “live-able” cities. UQ’s vibrant and scenic campus makes it a second home away from home.

UQ is a stronghold for life science research which suits my interests and academic background. The lectures can be theory oriented sometimes but then opportunities like ASPinS (Advanced Study Program in Science) allow you to do hands-on research in the lab while you’re still an undergraduate. The academic staff are amazing, really helpful and supportive and so are the administrative staff.”

Best Uni with varied course option

“I chose the Bachelor of Applied Science at UQ because it is very relevant to the Diploma course that I have completed in Singapore before coming to Australia.

The courses are well structured, and there’s lots of critical thinking and problem solving involved. The lecturers are also very approachable and knowledgeable.”

Review of University of Queensland

I am currently studying abroad and this is indeed a very different and wonderful experience. The culture, how people think and behave in certain circumstances can be something that you don't get to learn at home. Sometimes it’s not the matter what you study, it’s something that your personal exposure and experience makes you an outstanding person from studying locally. And UQ is really a nice and huge campus with all the facilities readily available to students.

A Thoughtful Account

Enjoying the course and the university a lot! The most important advice I'd give to prospective students is to bring some form of portable transport (bike/skateboard/scooter) as the campus is pretty big!
